BEACHES NEAR KITTERY MAINE

Image
SEAPOINT BEACH Between York and Rye, there aren't many places to swim. Seapoint is "swimmable" during the summer, but "walkable" all year. It's rustic and primal, which makes it ideal for an off-season or after-hours summer stroll with your four-legged companions. Residents of Kittery have exclusive access to the town's sole beach. Despite the basic pebbly beach, Seapoint is encircled by a slew of warning signs, numbering in the hundreds, that spell out the requirements for parking and visiting. Even the crucial view from the beach's little parking area is obstructed by tall metal s

INTRODUCTION: WHAT IS NEW ENGLAND FOLIAGE AND WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT IT Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut make up the six states that collectively make up the northeastern United States region known as New England. One of the most distinctive features of this region is its spectacular display of fall foliage, or the changing colors of the leaves on deciduous trees. Every year, from late September to early November, millions of visitors flock to New England to witness this natural phenomenon and enjoy the crisp autumn air, scenic drives, cozy accommodations, and seasonal activities. But what causes the leaves to change color? And why is New England such a prime destination for leaf-peeping? The answer lies in the unique combination of climate, geography, and biology that creates the perfect conditions for a colorful show. The main factor behind the color change is the decreasing amount of daylight in autumn, which triggers a chemical process in

CAPE COD SHARK SIGHTINGS

Image
Cape Cod has been a popular tourist destination for decades, but in recent years, it has become known for something else: shark sightings. The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy's Sharktivity app has been tracking the presence of white sharks off the coast of Massachusetts, and the numbers have been increasing. In 2022, there were 55 new individual Atlantic White Sharks tracked, and 63 returning sharks logged. The first sighting of a white shark in 2023 was caught on video by a whale-watching cruise out of Provincetown. The video shows a shark feeding near the surface, at one point emerging near the boat to gobble down a segment of flesh. Although white shark bites on humans are rare, the sighting serves as a reminder to beachgoers and boaters to be mindful of the presence of these ocean animals. The National Park Service recommends staying close to shore, playing in the water in groups, avoiding being in the water near seals or schools of fish and limiting splashing. CAPE COD SHARK
